Douwleen Bredenhann
Biographical info

Douwleen Bredenhann was born in Windhoek, Namibia on 19 September 1954. She grew up in Port Elizabeth, Windhoek and the Northern Cape. She studied art in Pretoria for a year and thereafter completed a BA in Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Stellenbosch. She is married to Steph, a civil engineer. After a number of years in the Northern Cape, the family now lives in the Western Cape.

Since 1988 the course of her life has been largely shaped by the horrific murder of their eldest daughter at the tender age of eight. She tells about this life-shattering experience and how it has influenced their lives in her debut book, 'n Hemelhoë Hekkie, published by Tafelberg in 2010.

Other writing passions include short stories and limericks. She particularly enjoys the sharp wit and challenging discipline required to craft a successful limerick.

Sixteen Bible limericks were published in Gesinsomnibus, compiled by Maretha Maartens for JP van der Walt Publishers in 1999.

A short story, Die dominee se dogter en die das, was shortlisted for the Contentlot.com writer's competition in 2001 and published in the subsequent volume, e-rupsie/e-ruption.
