Nico Smith
Biographical info

Nico Smith (1929–2010) was a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church and an anti-apartheid activist. He was a member of the Afrikaner Broederbond and a professor of theology at Stellenbosch University. He resigned from the Broederbond in the late 1970s. In 1982, Nico accepted a call by the Dutch Reformed Church in Africa and served as minister in Mamelodi until the early 1990s. He and his wife Ellen, a highly regarded child psychiatrist, also moved to Mamelodi. After Mamelodi, he founded a multiracial congregation in Pretoria. He and his wife had three daughters, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. At the time of his death they were living on a farm near Bapsfontein.
