Arendsnes (ePub) | Crime & Thriller
With his debut, Die jakkalssomer, Dirk Jordaan showed that he could write crime fiction, and Arendsnes confirms that. It is gripping, topical, attests to a sound knowledge of all the sectors of the South African crime world and is a very good story as well.
This time the heroine is a woman. Lydia Stander. Lieutenant Lydia Stander. Attached to the Hawks’ section for priority crimes. She is dedicated, driven, clever and, yes, attractive too. Not that any of these characteristics makes it easy for her at work – it’s a man’s world. However, she also has perseverance, and that is crucial when she has to deal with a series of murders that might have something in common: a policeman who is shot in front of his flat in Wonderboom South; the body of a respected businessman that is found in the parking garage of an office complex; a public prosecutor found on her blood-soaked carpet ...
One of the clues leads Lydia and her team to a smallholding outside Pretoria. The owner is Kalvyn Botha, a former soldier who is now a security consultant. A mysterious man, who also inexplicably appears on the scene when someone ambushes Lydia at her house.
Lydia’s highly developed intuition has often provided solutions, but what is feeding it now? Kalvyn’s rugged charisma, her marital problems, or her memories of a farm murder in which her father died?
