Stormkind | Fiction
Jana is only three years old when her mother mysteriously disappears during a visit to Ireland. On the Boland wine farm called Stormkloof, KleinStorm mourns the loss of his beautiful wife who enchanted him with melodies from her flute. Jana, too, longs for her mother. At night, the wind beckons Jana to come outside, the same wind that could uproot a house and settle it on the other side of the mountain. But Jana does not fear the storm. If she listens carefully, she can hear the high notes of her mother’s flute in the wind. During one of those stormy nights, she encounters !X’uri – a small girl, brown as stone, with just a loincloth around her hips and a string of white beads around her neck. !X’uri comes from the opening in the ground where the big wild olive tree’s roots once were. !X’uri appears because it is time to search for Jana’s missing mother.
Stormkind is a lyrical and captivating tale about loss, forgiveness and the cultural heritage of the Bushmen.
