Our History

Tafelberg was founded in 1951 and is one of the oldest and best known publishers in the South African publishing industry. With the inception of NB Publishers in 2001, Tafelberg’s list became part of that of NB Publishers, and Tafelberg itself became an imprint of NB Publishers. Tafelberg is best known for Afrikaans literary fiction, although it increasingly publishes English fiction. It also publishes children’s and youth books in most South African languages. Tafelberg’s list of authors include Anoeschka von Meck, Dalene Matthee, Etienne van Heerden, Eben Venter, Marita van der Vyver, and Marlene van Niekerk.

The non-fiction, which is published under the Tafelberg name, consists of books which stimulate debate, introduce new ideas and which make for enjoyable reading. Books about current events, our country’s history, biographies and autobiographies, business and travel books, health and lifestyle books are all published under this imprint.
