Francois Smith
Biographical info

Francois Smith is a lecturer of literature at the University of the Free State. His stories have appeared in the anthologies Bloots, Kosblik and Skarlakenkoors, and his translation of David Kramer: A Biography has been awarded a SALA Literary Prize.

He holds a Ph.D. in literature from the University of Cape Town, and when he is not assisting authors like Dan Sleigh, P.G. du Plessis and Elsa Joubert in perfecting their manuscripts, he lectures in literature or presents writing courses. His literary prowess, however, was honed during his stint as civil engineer in the employment of the CSIR, doing research on alternative municipal services and specialising on the Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine, commonly known as the VIP latrine.
