Translated from Afrikaans by J.M. Coetzee, the novel received worldwide acclaim, and Italian, Dutch, French, Swedish, German and Hebrew translations followed. The Italian edition won the Grinzane Cavour award in 1988. Also available in Afrikaans as Die kremetartekspedisie.
